John started woodworking in the Junior High School wood shop in 1962. He has a T-square that he made back then hanging on his shop wall. (And it’s still square)
He got his college degree in Scenic, Lighting, and Costume Design and worked at the college radio station.

By the time he graduated, radio had taken over his life. He did radio and some TV for the next 48 years. Two years before his retirement and his induction into the National Radio Hall of Fame, John started woodworking again.

The return to woodworking started with a request from his wife to build a floating frame for a picture she had painted. Without having any idea how to build one, he turned to YouTube. After a couple of searches, the algorithm took over and started feeding him all sorts of woodworking videos. The more he watched, the more he realized… ‘Hey, I can do that!’

Four years later, John and his family moved to Nashville, where John got to build his dream wood shop (a build he claims never seems to end). Creating more furniture is his goal, but he loves making anything he can with wood. Everything John builds is made only with high-quality hardwoods and is completely non-toxic, food safe, and finished with a blend of mineral oil and beeswax.
